Bragging rights at stake as Mathare face Sharks in Slum Derby

Mathare United host arch-rivals Kariobangi Sharks in the Slum Derby at the Kasarani Annex Stadium on Sunday 31 October in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) slated for a 1 PM kick-off.

Both teams are in a contrasting recent run of form with Mathare overwriting their poor start to the season with back-to-back victories against Sofapaka and Nzoia Sugar.

Sharks are, however, winless in their last two outings, drawing 1-1 against league strugglers Wazito and losing to Gor Mahia in a mid-week clash that broke their unbeaten run.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Sharks forward Felix Oluoch who marked his debut with a brace against Vihiga Bullets revealed that the side will be angling for all three points.

“First of all, the game is a derby, the more we manage the game the more chances we have of winning. We are coming from a loss so we badly want to win.

We have trained well since our midweek game. In our last game individual errors cost us and we have been sharpening our goalkeeping and forward departments to rectify our mistakes,” said Oluoch. 

The two sides are currently separated by a point with Sharks ahead on seven points but a win for Mathare will see them pip their rivals on the log.

The Slum Derby has previously been hotly contested with the 10 encounters ending in three wins for Mathare, four for Sharks and three games ending a draw.
