The son of the legendary Frenchman is regarded as one of Europe's most promising young talents, and this contract is further proof of his potential

Liverpool have secured the long-term future of one of their most promising academy talents after Prince Cisse, son of former Reds striker Djibril Cisse, signed his first professional contract with the club.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a standout season in Liverpool's youth ranks, earning recognition for his rapid development and consistent performances. The club announced that he is among eight academy players who have committed their futures to the Reds following an impressive campaign at the AXA Training Centre.

Cisse played a major role for Liverpool's Under-18 side throughout the 2025-26 season, featuring in 19 league matches and captaining the team on four occasions. His influence extended beyond that level, with appearances in the UEFA Youth League for the Under-19s and a memorable debut goal for the Under-21s.

Liverpool are believed to have tied the defender down until 2029, the longest contract available for a player of his age, highlighting the club's confidence in his potential.

Although his father built his reputation as a prolific striker at Anfield, Prince has taken a very different path. Originally deployed further forward, he was converted into a centre-back last season, a move that has accelerated his progress and helped him become one of the academy's most highly rated prospects.

Speaking earlier this year about following in his father's footsteps, Prince said: “I’ve seen the highlights. It’s nice to watch him back, see what he was like. A bit of a crazy player with his mad hairstyles and all that. Me playing centre-back now, he was probably a striker that I wouldn’t want to play against. He seemed like a good player. I had pace but maybe my goalscoring ability probably wasn’t as good as his, hence why I’ve been moved to centre-back. He was lightning-quick but I’d say I’m maybe a bit quicker.”

Djibril Cisse remains a popular figure among Liverpool supporters after scoring 24 goals in 79 appearances and helping the club win the Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

For Prince, however, the focus is firmly on forging his own path. After establishing himself at Under-18 level and gaining valuable experience with older age groups, the teenager is now aiming to become a regular member of Liverpool's Under-21 squad next season as he continues his journey toward senior football.
