Owino, 24, has been out of action since Sunday, 15 March, when he was substituted early during Gor Mahia’s 3-1 win over Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Complex with an apparent muscle injury.
A day later, Gor Mahia’s team doctor confirmed that the defender had suffered a partial tear in his lower calf muscle.
“He (Owino) was referred for further evaluation, where an MRI confirmed a partial tear of the lower medial gastrocnemius muscle belly,” doctor Brian Odongo mentioned in his report.
“He is expected to be out for six weeks before returning to play, subject to his recovery progress.”
The latest update thus means Owino, who ended up missing out on Harambee Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA Series in March, is right on the timeline for a return to full team participation, even as Gor Mahia enter a crucial phase of the season.
The record champions are currently top of the standings with 57 points, just two ahead of arch-rivals AFC Leopards, who have played a game more.
Gor Mahia, in Owino’s absence, have won once and drawn once, and will look to get back to winning ways when they visit Tusker at the Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga on Tuesday, 14 April.
