Morocco set sights on Niger as they look to maintain unbeaten run

Morocco hosts Niger in a Group E World Cup qualifier at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Match Preview

Morocco has an impeccable record in the qualifiers, sweeping away all before them in the group, and now sits six points clear at the top midway through the campaign.

Morocco has scored 14 goals and conceded only two, speaking volumes of the defensive resilience fostered under coach Walid Regragoui. Known for his team's ability to be as compact, a tactic that saw his team become the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Morocco has won the last 5 consecutive matches and will look to be in contention for their seventh World Cup and third overall.

Morocco has scored more than one goal in each of their World Cup qualification matches, conceding only one goal in the two home matches, and is unbeaten in home competitive matches since 2019.

Yousef En Nesyri will look to lead Morocco's attack, with two goals for his club, Fenerbache and has the second highest shot total in the team; all hopes will lie on him to score and set the side towards a convincing win.

Olympiacos man Ayoub El Kaabi will also look to ease the burden in attack for En-Nesyri, having scored against Tunisia and Benin. Both goals came in the added time of the matches, as with Benin, he scored in added time of the first half, while against Tunisia, he scored in added time of the second half.

Niger, under the tutelage of Badou Zaki, has managed to garner six points, winning two games and losing two games. They have scored six goals and let in four.

However, Niger still lies in contention for second place as they are three points adrift of Tanzania.

Niger has, however, failed to win any of its last five matches and has not scored in its last four matches. Having also won only one match on the road in the last five.

In the head-to-head, on the three occasions both sides have met, Niger has not beaten their hosts. Leading going into halftime in the reverse fixture will, however, give them some confidence.
