Villa sit fourth with 51 points from 28 matches, while Chelsea are sixth on 45 points, just six behind their hosts, making this clash pivotal in the battle for a top-four finish.

Villa’s recent form suggests vulnerability. They have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions (D2 L3), scoring only four goals while conceding eight in that period.

Their 2-0 defeat to Wolves last time out underlined their dip, and across their last six games, they average just 0.67 goals scored and 1.33 conceded per match.

Notably, 83% of those fixtures have produced under 2.5 goals, highlighting a downturn in attacking fluency.

In the league table, Villa’s early-season momentum has stalled.

They have taken the fewest points of any top 10 side across the last five gameweeks. Home form, once their fortress, has also regressed.

After winning eight straight league matches at Villa Park between September and early January, they have collected just four points from their last four home outings (W1 D1 L2).

Defensive issues remain evident, with only one clean sheet in their last five league fixtures.

Team news compounds the challenge. John McGinn, Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara, Harvey Elliott and Andres Garcia are all sidelined.

Ollie Watkins, Villa’s joint-top scorer with eight league goals, has failed to net in his last four league appearances, though he boasts four goals in his last six league meetings with Chelsea.

Ross Barkley could return to the starting XI after multiple substitute appearances.

Chelsea, meanwhile, arrive after a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, marking their third consecutive league game without victory.

Over their last six matches in all competitions, the Blues have recorded two wins, two draws and two losses, scoring 11 goals and conceding seven.

They average 1.83 goals scored and 1.17 conceded across that stretch, with 67% of those matches producing over 2.5 goals.

Sixth in the standings, Chelsea remain firmly in contention for UEFA Champions League qualification but must address defensive frailties.

They have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 league games and have conceded in each of their last six.

Away from home, they have won only two of their previous eight league fixtures (D3 L3), and both teams have scored in each of their last six away league matches.

Injuries also impact the visitors. Pedro Neto is suspended, while Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Dario Essugo are unavailable.

Joao Pedro, however, has 11 league goals and eight goal contributions in his last six league games prior to the Arsenal defeat, making him Chelsea’s primary threat.

Head-to-head meetings are evenly balanced, with each side winning twice and drawing twice in the last six encounters.

Five of those six league meetings have seen both teams score, and the average goals per game stands at 2.83.

Key Betting Pointers;

  • Both teams have scored in six of Chelsea’s last six away league matches
  • Villa have kept one clean sheet in five league games
  • Five of the last six league H2Hs saw BTTS land
  • Chelsea have conceded in 11 of their last 12 league fixtures

With defensive inconsistencies on both sides and attacking quality still evident, the data strongly supports goals at both ends.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
