Leopards were expected to claw their way to the Round of 32, only to be knocked out by the fifth-tier club

Experienced BB Bread goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade has opened up on how the club eliminated AFC Leopards out of the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup.

The fifth-tier side pulled the biggest surprise of Round 64, knocking out Leopards in a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 in regular time.

BB Bread led 2-0 at half, but Leopards managed to force a draw through the second half courtesy of goals from Christopher Koloti and James Kinyanjui.

However, Owade was the hero of the day, as he saved Kennedy Owino’s kick to ensure the bread millers secured a place in the Round of 32.

Speaking after the match, Owade, a former AFC Leopards player, explained what worked for them on Sunday.

Leopards are a big team. We respected them and had to be on high alert. They seemingly dropped their antenna due to our profile, and we capitalized on that to score early goals. The win will motivate us going forward to improve as a team,” said Owade.

The shot-stopper, who has had a taste of both the top, second and the fifth tier, shared the comparison between the FKF Premier League and the lower divisions.

There are many talents in the lower leagues; they are just unfortunate not to get opportunities.

At the top level, the opponents give you the time and space to play, which is not the case in the lower leagues,” he added.

On his part, BB Bread head coach Ajastine Okoba believes that his side got their match day tactics right.

The match went according to our game plan. We knew they would come at us and we would get the chances and spaces to hit them on the counterattack. In the second half, we had opportunities to do the same, but we did not utilize them,” he stated.
