Bayern aim for victory on Muller's jubilee day

Today's Bavarians duel against Freiburg (18.30) could represent a jubilee day for Thomas Muller, who could become the player with the most appearances in Bayern's history

For the Bavarians' fans or anyone at the club, the game against Freiburg represents the first home-game of the season. For Vincent Kompany, it will be a debut in front of the home crowd.

"Finally a game at the Allianz Arena! I feel like I've already been here for ages but we haven't played there yet, so I'm really looking forward to it. We want to show the fans a good performance," said the Belgian manager in a pre-match press conference.

However, for Thomas Muller this clash could be much more. He could become Bayern's sole record player with most appearances for the club from Munich. He is currently tied with the legendary keeper Sepp Maier with 709 games, but it's only a matter of time when Muller will single out in the top spot and write a new page of Bayern's history. And that time, by all odds, comes today! At the same time, the 34-year-old - whose 35th birthday is in four days - is the Bavarians' third all-time top scorer with 244 goals, behind Robert Lewandowski (344) and the iconic Gerd Muller (570).

The forward joined Bayern's youth categories in 2000 at the age of 11 and became a regular member of the senior squad in 2008. In the opening Bundesliga round against Wolfsburg last week, Muller entered the game in the 65th minute while his team was trailing 2-1 and helped the Bavarians turn the result over and emerge triumphant 3-2.
