Despite being two goals down, RB Leipzig stunned 28.000 people at BayArena and beat the favourites 3-2
It has happened! After 15 months, Bayer Leverkusen lost the Bundesliga game - for the first time after May 2023 when Bochum brushed them aside 3-0! Xabi Alonso's team had a 2-0 lead, but Leipzig awaited the vengeance for Piero Hincapie's added-time goal from January and Lever's 3-2 triumph!
The Bundesliga champions were not bad today. On the contrary, they played well, but luck was on the away team's side. Leipzig reduced the gap in the dying second of the first half and then started the second period with outstanding motivation, which eventually brought them the win. The win they waited for almost two years!
Bayer took the 2-0 lead through Jeremie Frimpong's and Alejandro Grimaldo's goals, and it seemed that Lever would secure another easy victory. However, Kevin Kampl's goal in the seventh minute of added time, just before the break, announced something else. Martin Terrier missed a couple of colossal chances, and Leipzig - served Leverkusen the punishment!
First, Castello Lukeba's goal in the 52nd minute was disallowed due to Benjamin Sesko's offside. However, five minutes later, Lois Openda equalized through Matej Kovar's legs and then, ten minutes before the end, completely turned the tables and brought his team the victory, this time through Edmond Tapsoba's legs. Despite the seven minutes of added time, Leverkusen, this time, couldn't salvage the draw...
