The scorer of one of the two goals in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final is now on the Catalan club’s radar

Barcelona are reportedly in contact with Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth, as Hansi Flick begins planning for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. With the Polish veteran approaching his 38th birthday and weighing up his future, the La Liga leaders are already assessing alternatives, and the Norwegian forward has emerged as a strong candidate.

The Catalan club is working ahead with an eye on the 2026-27 season, identifying the 30-year-old Atletico striker as a realistic and physically suited option. Flick is said to favour a forward with established La Liga experience, especially after interest in Marcus Rashford cooled due to Manchester United’s high asking price.

Lewandowski had been expected to extend his stay, but uncertainty over a reduced-salary renewal has pushed Barcelona’s sporting department to explore more practical solutions in the market. As reported by Marca, Sorloth fits the profile Flick is looking for, standing at 1.95m and offering strong hold-up play and aerial presence.

The Norwegian has also built a reputation as something of a Barcelona problem, scoring seven times in 15 matches against them across spells with Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. Club insiders reportedly see him as a priority target who could make an immediate impact, with initial contacts already made regarding a possible summer move.

At Atletico, Sorloth remains an important squad member, though Julian Alvarez’s rise as the main attacking reference has limited his starts. Financial considerations could also force Atletico’s hand, with a potential fee in the €25–30 million range seen as enough to open formal talks—making him a more affordable option compared to other elite strikers.

For now, Sorloth is focused on Atletico’s Champions League semi-final clash with Arsenal, having scored 17 goals in 47 appearances this season. But with his contract running until 2028 and Barcelona’s interest growing, the summer window could bring significant developments regarding his future in Madrid.
