Austin Odhiambo wasted no time settling into life abroad, announcing his arrival in style with a debut goal for Lebanese heavyweights Nejmeh SC just days after joining the club.
The former Gor Mahia playmaker was officially unveiled earlier this week, took part in his first training session on Thursday and, by Saturday, was already celebrating his maiden goal in Nejmeh colours.
Odhiambo found the net during a friendly match against Beirut rivals Racing Club, as Nejmeh stepped up preparations for the resumption of the Lebanese league.
The midfielder played a key role as his new side cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory.
His first goal for the club was a moment to savour. Odhiambo curled home a superb free kick from just outside the penalty area, putting the finishing touch on the dominant display and instantly endearing himself to the Nejmeh faithful.
“First appearance… first impact. Austin Odhiambo is here. The Rolls Royce has arrived,” Nejmeh posted on their official social media platforms in celebration of the midfielder’s debut strike.
The strong start underlines Odhiambo’s intent to make an immediate impression following his move from Gor Mahia, and he will be keen to carry that form into competitive action when the league resumes later this month.
Nejmeh return to league duty on January 18 with a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash against Al Ansar.
Al Ansar currently lead the 12-team standings with 28 points, just two ahead of Nejmeh, meaning victory would propel Odhiambo’s new side to the summit in their first league outing of 2026.
Odhiambo joined the nine-time Lebanese champions in a deal believed to be worth KSh8 million, paid to record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, a significant investment that the midfielder has already begun to justify.
With fellow Kenyans Masud Juma and Anthony Akumu also on the books, the Harambee Stars trio will be aiming to spearhead Nejmeh’s push for the league title, which the club last won in 2024 before finishing fourth last season.
If his debut is anything to go by, Odhiambo looks ready to play a central role in Nejmeh’s title ambitions.
