Odhiambo, who crossed over from AFC Leopards to Gor Mahia in 2021, described mixed emotions ahead of the clash against his sibling and his former team.
"It's indeed a mixed feeling to face my elder brother, but it is also a good feeling because it shows where one is from and where one is heading. To me, it will be a great match against my former team,” he said.
The skilful midfielder first joined Ingwe’s youth setup in 2016, progressing to the senior team in 2018, before making the switch to the record league champions four years ago.
On the blue half, Otieno recently joined AFC Leopards at the start of the season after leaving defending league champions Kenya Police FC, setting the stage for a sibling showdown in one of Kenyan football’s most celebrated rivalries.
Despite the emotional backdrop, Odhiambo insists he feels no added pressure.
“I have faced my former team before, and I will simply give my all on the pitch,” he stated.
Since joining Gor Mahia, he has netted twice in derby encounters, first his maiden derby goal on 14 May 2023, though Leopards prevailed 2-1, and again on 21 April 2024, scoring the lone goal to hand K’Ogalo a 1-0 victory over Ingwe.
The upcoming fixture promises a high-octane contest, not just for bragging rights but also in the quest for the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title.
Gor Mahia aims to extend their derby dominance to 34 wins, inching six victories clear of Leopards’ 28, while simultaneously opening a two-point gap at the summit of the table with Kakamega Homeboyz sitting out of this weekend's set of fixtures.
With sibling rivalry adding a compelling subplot, fans can expect a captivating clash as Odhiambo and Otieno go head-to-head in a match that embodies both personal pride and the enduring intensity of the Mashemeji Derby.
