Former referee fancies Arsenal's chances but only under one condition

Victor Gyokeres, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Noni Madueke. That’s the current summary of Arsenal’s transfer window. The Gunners have definitely strengthen their team properly this time around but coach Mikel Arteta is expecting some more new faces. Some player have left the club (Thomas Partey) while some others will probably leave soon (Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson) but the general feeling is that the North London club is much stronger than last August. And one ‘expert’ is not shy of talking about Arsenal as the potential champion come May 2026.

Mark Clattenburg, a former referee and a declared Newcastle United fan really like the Gunners. In fact, he is tipping on Mikel Arteta’s team to win it next season, but only on one condition – that Alexander Isak doesn’t sign for Liverpool.

Gyokeres signing for Arsenal is genius. Arsenal have been missing goals, they needed that leader upfront. If Liverpool don't get Isak – I could see the league being really competitive this year. Luis Diaz has left, the new signings they've made will have to hit the ground running and Salah is not getting any younger. He's losing his pace. It all depends on Isak – if he goes, there's only one winner. But I really fancy Arsenal for the title” he said.

Unlike many others, Clattenburg wasn’t so impressed by Liverpool but rather thought that their consistency throughout the whole season was slightly better than in other clubs.

I enjoyed watching Liverpool last season, but nearer the end, they were caught short a little bit. A lot of the teams around them suffered – and I felt Liverpool were just slightly better than they were. City were poor, Chelsea were indifferent, United and Tottenham weren't as strong. They weren't all beating each other, which normally happens. They maintained some form while the rest dipped – but Arsenal look so much stronger this year, and I think they'll challenge a lot more” said Clattenburg.
