Mikel Arteta has been impressed by the Bayer striker’s performances, prompting the north London club to enter the race to sign him

Arsenal have positioned themselves as the leading contenders to sign Bayer Leverkusen standout Christian Kofane this summer. The teenage forward’s agent has confirmed that interest from north London is strong, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options with the Gunners edging closer to the Premier League title this season. Arteta appears to view Kofane as a long-term solution to Arsenal’s striker issues.

The 19-year-old has shone for Leverkusen this season, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. Arsenal have been consistently linked with the Bundesliga star, and now his representative, Eric Depolo, has provided an update on the transfer situation.

“Yes, Arsenal’s interest is genuine. The manager likes him very much," Depolo told Daily Arsenal. "There is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league — from there, everything will start moving.” While Sky Germany previously suggested a price range of €60-70 million, Depolo believes Kofane’s market value is considerably higher.

“He is a €100 million player. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next 10 years," the agent insisted. Depolo went on to describe Kofane as the top talent in his age bracket across Europe. “Right now, he is the best U21 striker in Europe and the most complete. He has pace, technical ability, defends well, and is strong in the air. Finding all these qualities in one striker is extremely rare.”

Arsenal are not the only club tracking Kofane. Depolo revealed that interest from elite sides has been relentless, with Premier League competitors Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, and Brentford all reportedly in the mix, alongside European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

When asked who is leading the race, Depolo hinted that Arsenal currently hold the edge, citing personal and cultural connections within the squad as a potential deciding factor.

“I think it’s too early to say, but since the player speaks Spanish, like Mikel Arteta, and William Saliba is originally from Cameroon, I would say Arsenal are in pole position,” Depolo added. With the foundations seemingly in place, it is now up to Arsenal to meet Leverkusen’s valuation and secure one of football’s brightest young prospects.
