Naivas FC forward Derick Anami is glad to have resumed league action with the shoppers after healing from an injury that kept him out of the opening nine games for the National Super League side.
Anami suffered a knee injury during his time with third Division side Zoo FC and took a couple of months to heal even after sealing a move to Naivas during the off-season player registration window, months later, he is happy to have recovered and ready to steer the shoppers towards league success.
The striker played his first game for the 2019-2020 FKF Division One Zone A champions last week, giving him the hope of contesting for more playing time and being part of a potentially incredible season for the chain markets-powered club.
"I am glad to be back on the pitch after a long battle with injuries. It has not been easy for me on the sidelines but I am delighted to have started kicking the ball again," he disclosed
Anami, an elder brother to Harambee Starlets forward Jentrix Shikangwa, further opened up his ambitions of winning the Golden Boot despite a late start to his season.
The forward, who joined the club from Zoo FC, has so far netted three goals in two matches further assisting once, and believes with more game time he will catch up with the tournament’s top scores and pip them to the gong.
“I am happy to have scored in two consecutive games. It is a huge relief for me as I had waited for it for longer and more so coming from injury it really had me pumped. My individual target is bagging the top scorers' accolade at the end of the season. Despite coming in late, I believe if I stay fit enough I am going to catch up with Nyakwaka and the rest soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the striker has laid clear his plan of leading Naivas to Football Kenya Federation Premier League noting that the club has overstayed in the second tier going by the quality of players at their disposal.
“We have good players and what it takes to have a successful campaign. Many didn’t expect us to start well but our collective efforts have placed the team in contention for promotion. We will endeavor to give our best throughout,” he added.
