The final will be held at the newly renovated Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 30 August 2025, following major upgrades funded by the Kenyan government.
CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba has expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, which Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will co-host.
With just 14 days remaining until kick-off, the tournament is officially set to take place in the East African trio for the first time in history, following two previous postponements due to unpreparedness and logistical challenges.
CAF has now formally cleared Kenya as one of the hosts of the tournament, following Mosengo-Omba’s inspection tour of key venues, including Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani) and Nyayo Stadium on Monday.
Currently on a visit to Kenya and Tanzania, Mosengo-Omba is meeting with the Local Organizing Committees (LOC) ahead of the opening match scheduled for 2 August at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The final will be held at the newly renovated Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 30 August 2025, following major upgrades funded by the Kenyan government.
Speaking during the inspection, the CAF chief praised the progress made by the host nations.
“There has been significant work and progress made by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda over the past few months in close collaboration with our CAF teams on the ground. I commend the commitment shown by the three governments and the leadership of their respective Football Federations,” Mosengo-Omba stated.
He, however, noted that a few finishing touches remain ahead of kick-off.
“Today I inspected Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, along with several training grounds. There are no longer concerns about overall readiness. We are now working on final details to ensure everything is perfect by 2 August. Tomorrow, I’ll be in Tanzania to assess preparations there.”
Mosengo-Omba was accompanied by key stakeholders including Nicholas Musonye, Chair of the LOC; Harold Ndege, FKF General Secretary; Evans Achoki, Secretary of Administration in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports; as well as officials from the Kenya Defence Forces who have played a major role in overseeing stadium renovations.
Kenya will host all Group A matches at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, with all of Kenya’s fixtures set for the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The closing ceremony will also take place at the same venue.
