AFC Leopards have taken a giant step by granting their former players free electronic access to all home matches, an initiative aimed at celebrating club legends and rebuilding the bond between past heroes, fans, and current players.

The announcement was made by club chairman Bonface Ambani, who said the move is meant to honour former players while ending years of gate harassment and limited access for those who once proudly wore the blue and white shirt.
“For the first time in the history of the club, the legends will have a seamless entry into our home matches. NEC has gone a step ahead to get them access passes to the stadium. No more harassment at the entry points,” Ambani posted on his Facebook page.
Ambani, a former Ingwe striker himself, explained that the initiative will allow fans to reconnect with household names who defined different eras of the club’s history.
“It is time for our fans to have a one-on-one interaction with our former stars, the likes of JJ Masiga, Abbas, Mulamba, Murila, Weche T9, Musukus, Lukoye, Asibwa, Kadenges, Ofek, and others,” he said.
The passes also include more recent club icons such as Allan Wanga, Charles Okwemba, Mike Baraza, Simon Mulama, and Wycliffe Jumba, a move aimed at ensuring that every generation of Ingwe greats is recognised.
One of the first recipients of the electronic card was legendary defender Mickey “T9” Weche, remembered as one of the toughest and most respected figures in the club’s history.
Ambani stressed that beyond recognition, the club wants to create a mentoring bridge between the old and new generations.
“We need them back to help this club grow. Their one-on-one talks with our current players and fan base will bring back the relationship we need, unity for a purpose,” he said.
The access passes are electronically generated, with special gadgets installed at the stadium gates to ensure hassle-free entry. Ambani also revealed that fully registered club members will soon receive similar digital passes as part of a wider modernisation effort.
The move comes just two months after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced a similar plan for national football legends during the unveiling of Dennis Oliech as the CHAN 2024 ambassador in August.
Although the federation’s version is yet to take shape, the Leopards take pride in being the first club in Kenya to officially launch the initiative.
