Cherotich kicked off her 2025 season in style, winning three consecutive Diamond League races between May and June.

Her first triumph came on Friday, 16 May in Doha, Qatar, where she clocked 9:05.08 to defeat Olympic champion Winfred Yavi, earning her a hefty $20,000 (Ksh2.6 million).

She maintained her form with wins in Oslo (June 12) and Paris (June 20), collecting a combined $20,000 (KSh 2.6 million) from those victories.

Although Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi halted her streak at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene (July 5), Cherotich still clocked a personal best of 8:48.71 and earned $6,000 (Ksh775,000) for her runner-up finish.

Her season reached its peak at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where she pocketed $30,000 (Ksh3.9 million) after clinching the title.

In total, Cherotich walked away with $76,000 (Ksh9.9 million) from the Diamond League series.

The highlight of her season came at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the last major event on the global athletics calendar in 2025.

Cherotich produced a masterful late surge in the thrilling final to clock 8:51.59, dethroning Yavi and becoming the first Kenyan woman to win the world title in the steeplechase since Beatrice Chepkoech in 2019.

Her victory earned her $70,000 (Ksh9 million) from World Athletics, while the Kenyan government added a Ksh3 million token of appreciation, taking her total Tokyo earnings to Ksh12 million.

This performance not only ended a six-year gold drought for Kenya in the event but also etched Cherotich’s name among the greats, alongside Milcah Chemos (2013), Hyvin Kiyeng (2015), and Beatrice Chepkoech (2019).

Cherotich’s rise has been steady and well-earned. She had hinted at her potential back in 2023, when she claimed bronze at the World Championships in Budapest.

Two years later, her composure and tactical brilliance saw her conquer a field stacked with global stars.
