'Team Kenya merchandise to hit shop next month' - NOCK

Fancy yourself donning the Kenyan kit worn by renowned athletes in global events like the Olympics and World Athletics Championships?

Well, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) got you covered as the body intends to have its merchandise hit the market starting next month.

Over the years, NOC-K has been on the receiving end of criticism for failing to fully exploit and gain commercially from the sale of the Team Kenya merchandise.

However, they will be readily available from next month according to the body's Secretary General Francis Mutuku, who revealed that plans were at an advanced stage to have the merchandise ready for purchase from April.

"NOC-K has responded to numerous demands by the Kenyan public and international community to avail Team Kenya merchandise. The brand is very popular internationally and thus the demand. We engaged some designers and are in the process finalizing everything on the merchandise which should hit the shop next month," he announced.

To enhance accessibility, Mutuku, while speaking in a seminar organized by NOC-K in hand with the Sports Journalists' Association of Kenya, revealed that the sports wear will be available in designated shops spread all over.

"We will announce which shops will have the right to sell the products. We may partner with supermarkets or renowned shops where we will station our products," said Mutuku.

Meanwhile, Mutuku took the earliest opportunity to warn unscrupulous businessmen hellbent on selling fake merchandise that a mechanism will be put to stop them on their tracks.

"It is a global challenge but we will try our best to curb the sale of fake merchandise," he added.
