Winners of the race will pocket Ksh 100, 000 from Mozzart Bet

Despite having not recovered well from a trip to Gabon, the reigning Re-discover Nandi Road race champion Emmanuel Bor has vowed to defend his title in the 13th edition set for this Sunday.

Bor clocked 28 minutes and 21 seconds to clinch the men’s title last year with Nancy Jelagat bossing the ladies’ category.

The 28-year old returned to the country on Monday from Gabon where he participated and won the 10 km de Port Gentil race on Sunday.

Bor crossed the line after 27 minutes and 50 seconds ahead of Justus Kangongo and Bernard Kipkirui who stopped the clock after 27.58 and 28.32 respectively.

With less than three days to the race, the seasoned long-distance runner concedes that he has not had sufficient rest time, however, he says his eyes are firmly fixed on retaining his Nandi Road race title.

“I want to win the race for the second time on Sunday despite being fatigued. I flew in just the other day from Gabon but I will try my best to cut the tape ahead of the rest. I know the local athletes are in good shape but, I will strive to beat them,” he said.

Besides clinching top honours, Bor is hopeful of improving his time considering that he is conversant with the course.

The race sponsored by the leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet will see winners from either category walk home with Ksh. 100 000. Last year, the winners of the race that attracted more than 400 athletes pocketed Ksh 80,000.
