The squad could challenge the Chinese all-comers’ record set by Kenya's Alex Nzioka Matata in winning the 2025 Meishan Renshou Half Marathon in 59:28 back in February 2025

Four runners, who have dipped under 60 minutes in the half marathon, are set to go head-to-head at this year’s Shanghai Half Marathon, set for Sunday, 20 April, in China’s biggest city and a global financial hub, Shanghai, chasing the men’s title.

Last year’s winner, Roncer Konga, who took the title in 1:00:29, a second quicker than Isaac Kipkemboi, headlines the all-Kenyan leading quartet, with the reigning silver medalist also in the mix.

In a sprint finish, Konga, no stranger to the 21km, crossed the line in 1:00:29, while Kipkemboi clocked 1:00:30. Benard Kibet Murkomen completed the podium places in 1:00:35.

As they head to the race this year, the defending champion carries a personal best (PB) time of 59:08 from Buenos Aires in August 2023, with Kipkemboi carrying a 59:17 PB from Rome in 2023 as well.

The other two top contenders are Edmond Kipngetich, who is carrying a 59:25 PB to the race, with Solomon Kirwa Yego, a 59:29 runner completing Sunday’s sub 60 list.
