The Kenyan sprint star will be seeking to make amends after a disappointing outing when the pair first met this season at the Rome Diamond League on Thursday, 4 June.

Omanyala endured an uncharacteristically difficult race, crossing the line eighth in 10.11 seconds as Lyles stormed to victory in 9.88 seconds.

Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme finished second in 9.94, while Botswana's Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo claimed third in 9.95.

Omanyala has since explained that his performance in Rome was affected by a poor start, insisting he is eager for another opportunity to test himself against the American.

The 30-year-old heads into the Paris meeting on the back of an impressive display at the Kenyan National Championships, which also served as trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Omanyala successfully defended his national title after clocking 10.00 seconds, comfortably beating Meshack Babu, who finished second in 10.20, while former national record holder Mark Otieno placed third in 10.32.

Despite his domestic dominance, Omanyala has experienced mixed fortunes during the European leg of the season. He finished fifth at the FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands, after posting 10.13 seconds, with South Africa's Akani Simbine taking victory in 10.08.

Lyles, meanwhile, arrives in Paris in red-hot form after producing a historic performance at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting on Tuesday, 16 June. The American clocked a world-best 14.67 seconds over 150m, bettering the previous record of 14.92 set by Jamaica's Kishane Thompson.

The Paris Diamond League is expected to produce one of the fastest 100m races of the season, with a world-class field that includes Eseme, Simbine, Britain's Jeremiah Azu, Italy's Olympic gold medalist Marcell Jacobs, and Americans Jordan Anthony and Trayvon Bromell.

While Omanyala will be chasing revenge, he also has another significant incentive. Despite his setback in Rome, the Kenyan currently tops the Diamond League standings with 16 points, narrowly ahead of South Africa's Gift Leotlela on 15, while American Kenneth Bednarek sits third with 11.

Omanyala admitted that leading the standings at this stage of the campaign has exceeded his expectations after entering the season focused on rebuilding following a difficult 2025 campaign.

"This season for me was a season of restoration and just getting back to the top. But honestly, I am glad we are at the top," he said.

With the race to the Diamond League final intensifying, the Kenyan believes consistency over the coming weeks will determine whether he can secure his maiden Diamond League trophy.

"The road to the final continues, so the next two months will be very crucial. The Diamond League final trophy is definitely on my target,” he explained.
