“I have Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression. But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!” – these were the words at the end of Noah Lyles’ new documentary; The Unseen Journey.
In the 18-minute documentary, Lyles gives his fans a sneak peek into his training and preparation heading to the Paris 2024 Olympics where he won gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m. He walks fans through the blood, sweat, and emotions that fueled his success.
The documentary covers the 2024 NYC Grand Prix, 2024 US Olympic Trials, and the 2024 Paris Olympics; all defining moments that shaped the legacy of the Fastest Man in the World.
Lyles likens the life of an athlete to a coin, with two distinct sides representing the highs and lows of their journey. The "head" symbolizes the triumphs, successes, and moments of glory, while the "tail" reflects the struggles, setbacks, and challenges they face.
“Being an athlete is a kind of a coin. On one side head; you see what TV shows; the glitz, the glamour, the medals, the celebration, the fans yelling and screaming, the fast running, etc.
But if you flip to the other side, it is tail; the hard work, the pain, the failures, the sacrifices,” he offered.
He went ahead to explain that his decision to showcase his journey was to offer the world a deeper understanding of the relentless physical and mental challenges athletes face on their journey to the top.
“Two years ago, I decided to show the journey that no one gets to see. Sometimes, everybody will look at you and say ‘It’s so easy’ but nobody knows how you got there. I want everybody to know that I am human, I am not just a track runner,” he said.
He continued: “I have loves and passions, I have good times and hard times, I can go through life and think ‘I’ll never make it’, but I also have time to think that I finally made it and I want everybody to see those because I want everybody to know that no matter what; hard, joyful, sad times, you can still go out there and achieve your dreams.
So that is why I chose to show ‘The Unseen Journey’.”
Since its debut in 2022, The Unseen Journey series has kept viewers glued to their screens as they followed Lyles’ pursuit of greatness, including his chase of Usain Bolt’s elusive 200m world record.
The series has become known for its raw and unfiltered portrayal of the realities of elite athletics.
But what makes this upcoming film stand out is that it does not just focus on Lyles’ victories — it dives into the highs and lows that shaped him into the athlete and person he is today.
One of the most significant moments highlighted in Lyles’ career so far was when he met his idol, Usain Bolt, at the 2024 Racers Grand Prix in Kingston.
