Commonwealth Games: Omanyala looking to end elusive gold for Kenya with 400m, 800m heats in store

The 100m men's final is slated to gun off at 11:30 pm on Wednesday.

Kenyan sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala will be looking to bag his maiden gold at the Commonwealth Games at the first time of asking with the 100m semis and final slated for Wednesday 3 August.

Team Kenya also has a chance of bagging a medal at the 100m women’s final where hopes rest on Maximila Imali who finished third in heat 3 to earn an automatic promotion place at a time of 11:30.

A number of Kenyans will also be looking to seal a place in the semis of the 400m in both the men’s and women’s category and the 800m men where their heats are slated for Wednesday.

Omanyala who is in the semis alongside his compatriot Samwel Imeta who also punched a ticket to the penultimate 100m race after running a Personal Best of 10.12 will both be looking to qualify for the final.

The 800m heats are also in store for Kenyans on Wednesday with the trio of Elias Ngeny, Cornelius Tuwei, and Wyclife Kinyamal looking to book a place in the semis.

Tuwei replaced World Under-20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who opted out to honor contractual obligations and compete in the Diamond League.

Boniface Mweresa, William Rayian, and Emmanuel Korir have their eyes set on the 400m semis as they also take to the track on Wednesday in the men’s heat.

Kenyan duo of Veronica Mutua and Mary Moraa will represent the country in the 400m heats with the latter doubling up in the 800m where she already eased to the semis on Tuesday.
