In the absence of rival Winfred Yavi, the Kenyan youngster will duel off with Ugandan Peruth Chemutai, who after a slow start in Doha last month, took a win at the FBK Games in Hengelo two weeks ago.

Cherotich will also be up against Ethiopia’s duo of Lomi Muleta and Sembo Almayew as she also keeps an eye on reclaiming her world lead, which is now in the hands of Doris Lemngole (8:58.15).

Another Kenyan - Caren Chebet - will be race pacemaker.

Elsewhere in the women’s 1500m, Kenyan youngster Nelly Chepchirchir will lead the hunt for her third Diamond League victory this season, after taking commanding wins in Doha and Rabat.

The 22-year-old will be joined by Olympian Susan Ejore, who narrowly missed out on a win in Doha, before fading to fifth in Rome earlier this month.

The duo, running in the last event of the night at 2350 EAT, will face the challenges of World Indoor Championships silver medalist Jemma Reekie, Great Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell - who beat Mary Moraa in Stockholm on Sunday, and Birke Haylom.

World Champion Julius Yego will also fly the Kenyan flag as he lines up in the men’s javelin event, which will be headlined by the rematch of Julian Weber and Neeraj Chopra.

Yego on Tuesday threw a season-best 83.08 at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, and will be looking to extend his fine form of gradual improvement as he chases a spot at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Double Commonwealth Games gold medalist Wycliffe Kinyamal will on the other hand face tough opposition in the men’s 800,, headlined by home star Gabriel Tual.

Kinyamal, 27, is currently fourth in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings, and will seek improvement from a seventh-place finish in Stockholm last weekend.

Other challengers in the 2215 EAT race include: Kenya’s Nicholas Kiplangat, Slimane Moula, Bryce Hoppel and 2025 world indoor champion Josh Hoey.

In other events, World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Abel Kipsang will team up with Phanuel Kipkosgei and Festus Lagat in the non-Diamond League men’s 1500m, while Jacob Krop faces a stern test in the men’s 5000m final.
