She is looking to complete her medal cabinet that is lacking gold from the global championship
Newly minted 5000m World Record holder Beatrice Chebet has confirmed what many had hoped, that she would be chasing the double at this year's World Championships in Tokyo.
Having become the first woman in history to break 14:00 on the track, running 13:58.06, Chebet says her current form and the performance in Paris last year have encouraged her to go for the double.

“Yes, I am planning to do the double. I tried it at the Olympics for the first time, and I won even though I struggled a bit, and it was difficult to recover well for the second event. I was also a bit scared," Chebet, yet to lift a World title, having won silver in Eugene 2022 and bronze in Budapest 2023, said.
Chebet has been in spectacular form, picking up from where she had left the 2024 season that saw her break Letesenbet Gidey's 10,000m world record of 29:01.03, running a time of 28:54.14 to become the first woman to break the 29-minute barrier.
On 25 May in Rabat, Chebet ran the second-fastest 3000m of all time, finishing in 8:11.56, which was 5.45 seconds short of Wang Junxia's record of 8:06.11 set in 1993.
After clocking the second-fastest 5000m on 6 June in 14:03.69 at the Golden Gala, a month later at the Prefontaine Classic, a 61-second final lap led Chebet to breaking Gudaf Tsegay's 5000m mark of 14:00.21, running 13:58.06.
"Now I feel a bit stronger and more experienced, and my confidence is high. I will go there (Tokyo World Championship) and do my best, and the target is to bring a medal home in both events,” Chebet told Telecomasia.
Her performances in the Diamond League have injected a massive boost of confidence as she aims to conclude the season with two World titles and the Diamond League trophy.
