
Zetech Oaks and TUM Marines secure KRU Championship Promotion

The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Marines and Zetech University Oaks have secured promotion spots to the KRU Championship
After a thrilling 2023–24 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide season, the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Marines and Zetech University Oaks have secured promotion spots to the KRU Championship.
Kabarak was replaced by TUM Marines, while Zetech Oaks filled the vacancy left by the Shamas Foundation. For Zetech Oaks, this promotion marks their second stint in the second tier, while TUM Marines will make their debut at this stage.
Sigalagala faced disappointment for the second year in a row, succumbing to a narrow 26-23 defeat against the TUM Marines.
The TUM Marines set the pace early with Steve Migel's opening try. Elias Gitonga converted the effort to see the Marines take an early lead.
The Marines added another try to see them through Ezra and command a 12-0 win.
Despite Sigalagala's efforts to narrow the gap, the TUM Marines maintained their momentum, extending their lead to 20-0 with Gitonga's penalty and another try from Ezra.
In the second half, Sigalagala made a strong comeback, driven by Sam Bachai's unwavering performance.
Bachai's penalty and try, along with successful conversions, narrowed the gap to just three points.
Gitonga's crucial penalty shifted the momentum in favour of the Marines, clinching their hard-earned 26-23 win and promoting them to the KRU Championship.
Meanwhile, Zetech Oaks demonstrated resilience in a tough battle against Project 61 to emerge victorious 23–9.
They took an early lead against P61, with Mike Wekesa's try converted by Jack Mangale. P61 managed to respond with a penalty from Don Keya, but Zetech Oaks further solidified their advantage with Byron Ondego's try.
Although P61 narrowed the gap with Paul Murwa's penalty, Zetech Oaks remained composed, extending their lead with precise kicking from Jack Mangale. Anderson Oduor's crucial try and Johnson Wafula's extra points secured the win for Zetech Oaks.
