The match, initially scheduled for Saturday, 17, will now be played on Friday, 16 January, at the ASK Kakamega Showground.

The adjustment was made to allow Strathmore Leos players, officials, and fans to attend the burial of Felix ‘Chano’ Odhiambo.

Chano, who plied his trade for Leos, passed away on Friday, 2 January, while undergoing treatment after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident on Thursday, 31 December 2025.

Reports indicate that the talented forward was hit by a car and rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Since his passing, the Strathmore community and the wider rugby fraternity have held a series of events in his honor.

On Sunday, 11 January, a touch rugby tournament was staged at the Strathmore Sports Complex, followed by a candlelighting ceremony.

This was followed on Monday, 12 January, by a candlelighting service held at the Strathmore University Main Auditorium, where family, friends, and teammates gathered to celebrate Chano’s life.

Among those in attendance were his brother Wallace Onyango, who plays for Menengai Oilers; members of the Strathmore Leos family; Chano’s immediate relatives; and several figures from the rugby fraternity.

On Tuesday, 13 January, friends and family convened at the Holy Family Minor Basilica for a fundraising service to support burial arrangements.

Further tributes have been planned for Wednesday, 14 January, when Chano’s friends from Kisumu will meet at The Yard from 19:00 hours for a candlelighting memorial.

The rescheduled Kenya Cup encounter will see Strathmore take on a Kabras side that has dominated recent meetings between the two teams.

The last time the sides faced off was on Saturday, 11 January 2025, when the Sugar Millers registered a commanding 45-5 victory over the Madaraka-based outfit.

This year, the clash is expected to be emotionally charged, with Strathmore aiming to honor their fallen teammate, while Kabras looks to maintain their strong record in the fixture.
