The national men's 15s side are currently coach-less

Despite the Kenya Simbas head coach role being vacant, Menengai Oilers manager Gibson Weru has revealed that he is currently not interested in the hot seat.

Oilers had a memorable campaign last season as they finished as runners-up in the Kenya Cup and lifted their maiden major trophy after clinching the National Sevens Circuit title.

Weru noted that he is capable of leading the men’s national 15s side but is solely focused on his job at Oilers where he has unfinished business.

“I’m capable and I have what it takes to lead the team but I have a job, coaching Oilers is the most important thing for me now. Maybe when the time is right I will think about that.

For now, I want to be a successful club coach and to be a successful club coach means that I have to be a championship-winning coach and the opportunity comes now I do not think I will raise my hands,” said Weru.

Immediate former Simbas Paul Odera had a decent stint, getting to the finals of the Rugby Africa Cup where they lost to Namibia and also participated in the 2022 Currie Cup Division Two where they registered two wins.

Odera failed to renew his contract with the Simbas following the disastrous Rugby Repechage where the poor performances were blamed on poor preparations due to limited finances.
