Kenya Cup outfit Strathmore Leos have set the target of lifting the overall 7s title for when they take part in the Eastern Africa University Games set to take place at Ndejje University in Uganda from 16 to 20 December 2022.
In the varsity games expected to attract over 40 schools from across the region, Strathmore, who departed for the competition on Thursday morning, are seeking to return back home as champions in the shorter 7s version with head coach Louis ‘Fadhee’ Kisia backing his side to put up a good show in the event.

“We are definitely anticipating to give a good account of ourselves in the competition. We have not been playing 7s recently but having just come from the Circuit a while ago, the touch is still there and the players are always excited playing 7s.
The games will start on Sunday and Monday so we still have a bit of time to polish on weak areas that we have not fully covered in training. Our objective is to top our pool and start day two on a high with the aim of winning the competition,” the head coach told Mozzart Sport.

Strathmore Leos who won the Christie 7s in the 2022 National 7s Circuit after defeating giants KCB in the main cup final have managed to travel with all members from the winning team in their quest to win the overall title.
According to the organizers of the event, up to 44 universities with a total of 2685 athletes had confirmed participation in the 20 disciplines set to take place over five days in the competition.
Apart from Strathmore, University of Nairobi, USIU, Kenyatta University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and Daystar University among others were the other Kenyan representatives in the event.
Rwanda, who have the University of Rwanda as members of Eastern Africa University Sports Federation (EAUSF), will not present participants. EAUSF has 94 member universities including three from Burundi.
There are no qualms however for the organisers as Florence Nakamya, the head of the secretariat, explains that universities are still sorting out their financial issues.
“We are flexible until the last day and many universities are expected to confirm in the coming days. What we have now are the universities that have fully confirmed their payments,” Nakamya said.
