The Trojans were promoted to Division one after an impressive performance over the past legs that saw them bag 77 points

Newly promoted side University of Eldoret (UOE) Trojans head coach Kelvin Mwisheni has sent a stern warning to their opponents ahead of the much-anticipated inaugural edition of the Tisap 7s scheduled for the Eldoret Sports Club this weekend.

The Trojans were promoted to Division I after an impressive performance in the past four legs that saw them amass 77 points.

The Eldoret based team started their journey in Kisumu, Dala 7s where they lost the final to Zetech Oaks before finishing third at the Driftwood in Mombasa.

The Trojans were third time lucky, winning the division two cup final as they defeated the Zetech Oaks 17-10 to win the Christie 7s division two competition.

The result saw UOE secure a place in the first division competition in their home town of Eldoret in the penultimate round of the series.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport during their final training session ahead of Tisap 7s, the soft spoken coach Mwisheni said that they were no longer underdogs in the 7s version of the game, and were ready to shock bigwigs in Division I. Trojans have been placed in Pool D together with Nakuru RFC, Mwamba RFC, and Nondies RFC.

“We have consisted of our division 2 reaching finals and semifinals in various meetings across the country. Here, we shall be playing at home and despite the fact that we are playing in the premier division for the first time, we are able to do the task,” said Mwisheni.

Having reached the finals not once, but an impressive three times, the coach expressed unwavering faith in his charges’ abilities despite the mountain task that awaits them over the weekend.

He insisted that their main aim was to qualify for the main cup quarterfinals. They have to defeat at least two teams in the pool.

“I believe the boys, who have been playing together for a very long time and any team that will underrate them, will find it tough. Reaching the finals three times is not easy for us and we shall keep the momentum,” he said.

“We shall make sure that we die with at least two teams in the pool so that we make it to the main cup quarterfinals and we progress from there. The fact that we have been promoted for the first time, it shows that the team work is there and we shall make use of our efforts to climb the ladder,” he added.

The Trojans lead the second division standings with 77 points. Zetech Oaks are second on 54 points as Stallions (50 pts), Administration Police Warriors (47pts) and Makueni (44 pts) to close out the top five.
