The cross-border quarterfinals, slated for Saturday, 21 March, will see Kenyan sides take on their Ugandan counterparts. KCB Rugby will travel to Kampala to face Black Pirates, while Kabras Sugar take on Heathens.

Menengai Oilers will welcome the Buffaloes, with Nondescripts RFC hosting Uganda’s KCB Kobs in what promises to be a mouth-watering contest.

Ugandan participation had faded over the years, but the 2026 edition signals a major revival for regional club rugby.

The quarterfinals will also be played in a cross-border format, with matches taking place in both Kampala and Nairobi.

Winners will progress to the final, scheduled for Saturday, 23 May, which will rotate annually between Kenya and Uganda.

Uganda Rugby Union CEO Isaac Lutwama welcomed the return of Ugandan sides, highlighting the importance of competitive regional fixtures.

“It builds back the regional rivalry that we had at club level, but it also now gives our boys a chance to play competitive games at a higher level before they get to play the same players, probably at international level,” Lutwama said.

Beyond the immediate competition, Lutwama sees the return of regional participation as part of a wider long-term vision to expand the tournament.

“It just means that the intention to create a vibrant competition for the region will not be a bad one, but also now for our players to keep developing themselves.

Who knows, this could be the beginning of an East Africa or even an African Champions League for rugby; something that really builds club competition before we get to international level,” he said.

The semifinals will be played on Saturday, 11 April, with the finals slated for Saturday, 23 May.
