Tisap 7s postponed to pave way for Safari Rally

The new dates have been set for 2 and 3 September at the same Eldoret Sports Club.

The organizers of the much-anticipated first edition of the Tisap 7s which was originally scheduled to take place in Eldoret on June 24 and 25 have announced that the tournament has been postponed to a later date.

According to the organizing committee, the showpiece has been pushed forward to accommodate the prestigious 70th edition of the World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally scheduled for the same dates in Naivasha.

The decision, according to the organizers was made to ensure the rally’s smooth execution. The new dates have been set for September 2 and 3 at the same Eldoret Sports Club.

Apart from the safari rally, Tisap 7s would collide with the famous Eldoret City Marathon which is scheduled for 25 June.

Meanwhile, the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo in Kisumu will host the first leg, Dala 7s which is penciled for July 1 and 2 before paving the way for Driftwood 7s in Mombasa on July 8 and 9.

A short break will follow thereafter to create room for the Junior World U-20 Championships which will be hosted for the first time in Nairobi on 15-30 July.

Rugby action will resume on 5 and 6 August in Nakuru, Prinsloo 7s which is traditionally hosted at the Nakuru Athletic Club. Following that, Christie’s 7s, hosted by Kenya Harlequins will happen on 12 and 13 August.

Fans will then head to a two-week break before returning for the two final legs: Tisap 7s (September 2,3) and Kabeberi 7s (September 9 and 10).

The 2022 National Sevens Circuit saw different winners for each circuit. KCB Rugby won the opening leg at Kabeberi Sevens, Strathmore Leos bagged the Christie Sevens, Mwamba ran away with the Driftwood title and Homeboyz gatecrashed the party at the Dala Sevens in Kisumu.

Menengai Oilers won the Prinsloo 7s title while Kabras RFC carried Kakamega 7s glory. Oilers were crowned the 2022 NSC winners.
