The two-day event will begin with the quarterfinals and penultimate rounds before culminating in the finals on Saturday, 28 June.

Among the notable fixtures in the boys’ knockout stage is a clash between Kisii School from Nyanza and Lenana School from Nairobi.

Coast region’s Waa High School, another regional finalist, will take on Alliance High School from Central.

Rift Valley Academy, representing Nairobi B, is set to face Kabianga High School from Rift Valley, while St. Patrick’s Iten will square off with Western region’s Butula Boys.

However, this year’s nationals have not been without controversy.

Defending champions Upper Hill School announced their shock withdrawal from the competition despite dominating the Nairobi A region.

They had opened their campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Strathmore School 60-0 and finishing top of their group with five points and a +60-point differential.

In an official statement, Upper Hill cited serious concerns over the tournament's organisation.

“As Upper Hill School, the defending champions of the Prescott Cup, we wish to officially communicate that we will not be participating in the upcoming fixtures.

We are withdrawing from the remaining fixtures due to serious concerns about the tournament's disorganisation: last-minute changes, unclear pooling, and a misleading attempt to present it as a national event.

We believe in upholding standards and urge organisers to improve,” the statement read.

Mang’u High School finished second in Nairobi A after edging Lenana School 18-8 but failed to secure a bonus point. Both Lenana and Strathmore remain winless.

Over in Nairobi B, Githinga School leads the table following a 26-3 victory over Dawamu School. Meanwhile, Rift Valley Academy and Alliance High School are yet to face each other in their regional matchup.

On the girls' side, Kinale Girls School and St. Teresa’s Girls made strong statements with commanding wins over Rift Valley Academy and Nova Pioneer, respectively.

The inclusion and performance of girls' teams continue to be a welcome development in the traditionally male-dominated tournament.

The Prescott Cup transitioned to a knockout format last year following consultations among schools, organisers, and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).

However, concerns over disorganisation persist, with memories still fresh of the 2023 edition’s abrupt cancellation that left several teams stranded en route to Nairobi.
