Shujaa next face New Zealand on Saturday 28 January in a 2:06 am kick off.

13 games into the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and Shujaa are yet to win a Pool game as they were off to a rude awakening at the Sydney 7s following a 31-5 thumping at the hands of South Africa.

The national men’s rugby 7s side, Shujaa have been enduring an abysmal run of form this season, losing nine of their 13 Pool games and registering draws in the rest.

Damian McGrath’s side have posted a torrid record against fellow African side South Africa, losing their last 10 head to head encounters with the last victory coming back in January 2020.

Pacey utility back Shilton van Wyk who is full of a bag of tricks registered the first try for South Africa in the third minute and went on to seal his brace four minutes later with both tries converted by Ricardo Duarttee.

There was still time left on the clock in the opening half to land another try with Shaun Williams crossing the whitewash as Duarttee added the extras for a 21-0 lead at half time.

The Blitzbokke picked up from where they left in the opening half as James Murphy landed South Africa’s fourth try but Duarttee finally set a foot wrong with the conversion.

Kenya arrived to the party right at the depth with Kevin Wekesa getting his name on the try scorer’s list but Siviwe Soyizwapi bagged a try in injury time to ensure South Africa emerged 31-5 winners.

Shujaa next face New Zealand on Saturday 28 January in a 2:06 am kick off.
