After a stainless first day from Shujaa, Chile handed Kenya a first defeat of the second tournament with a 14 -12 score in the quarter final stage

Kenya national men’s rugby team, Shujaa, were handed their first defeat of the second tournament of the Emirates Invitational Sevens after succumbing to a narrow 14-12 defeat against Chile in the tournament's quarter finals.

The sevens team were looking to continue with the imperious form they had displayed in match day one coming into the second day of the Emirates Invitational Sevens against Chile at the Sevens stadium in Dubai. Shujaa won all three games against Uganda, Canada and Spain in day one.

Picking up from where they left, Kenya had the first stroke of blood in the game as Daniel Taabu deceived the whole Chile squad, breaking the defensive lines and darting past every one of them to give Kenya a quick 5-0 lead. Looking to get back in the game, Chile responded just minutes later, scoring a try just near the centre posts for an easy conversion that gave them a 7-5 lead heading into the half time break.

Chile then extended their lead in the second half with a second try and a successful conversion to take the scores to 14-5. The second try seemed to spark Shujaa into life. The team increased the tempo and that hurried reaction resulted in a second try scored by Alvin Otieno. A successful conversion cut down the margin to only two points. It was however too late for Shujaa to stage a comeback with their ascendancy. At the sound of the hooter, Chile quickly ended action to win the game 14-12 and hand Shujaa their first loss of the second tournament.

The Kenya Lionesses on the other hand were also left still searching for their first win of the second tournament as Brazil women defeated them 15- 12 in their first match of day two.
