The 36-year-old approaching the twilight of his career revealed the direction he would the sport to take in the near future.

Kenya’s finest import on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Collins Injera has revealed the change he would love to see happen to rugby in order to uplift the fortunes of the sport in the country.

Over recent seasons, rugby has plunged to unparalleled drop in standards owing to lack of finances necessary to sustain the game which has led to a steady decline in performances both from the men’s national 7s and 15s sides Shujaa and Simbas respectively.

Speaking in an interview with renowned South African journalist Carol Tshabala, Injera, who is Kenya’s all-time top try scorer on the prestigious HSBC circuit with his 279 tries putting him in second behind Dan Norton (358) on the all-time list, revealed that he would love to see the game evolve into becoming fully professional in the next decade.

“The biggest thing I would want for Kenyan rugby would be for it to turn professional. I think it will also change a lot in terms of how kids view the sport. That would be the biggest thing I want to see in the next decade,” the Mwamba RFC player offered in the Carol Odyssey.

Additionally, the 36-year-old who is approaching the twilight of his career revealed that he would love to play a part in mentoring the upcoming players in the game once he officially decides to go into retirement.

“Now that I am on the tail end of my career, I think it is only fair for me to share the knowledge that I have gathered over the years.

I see myself playing a part in that uplifting of the sport especially in the space of mentorship where I get to guide the young talents to budding players. Hopefully when I call it quits officially, I will be able to go down that road,” he added.
