Shujaa land familiar opponents ahead of Hong Kong 7s

Fresh from a dismissal performance at the Vancouver 7s, Kenya 7s national team; Shujaa will have no time to waste as their opponents for the Hong Kong 7s, slated for Friday 28 to Sunday 30 March at the Kai Take Stadium in China, have been revealed.

The Kevin Wambua-coached side has been placed in Pool C together with; Spain, Great Britain, and France.

Great Britain and France are familiar opponents, having played against Shujaa in the recently concluded Vancouver 7s.

Kenya bowed 33-7 to France before losing 26-10 loss to Great Britain.

Shujaa and Dubai Sevens silver medalists, Spain last faced off during the Cape Town 7s where Kenya lost 14-7 to miss out on a semifinal spot.

The Kenyan team is coming off a winless run in Canada where they lost all their matches to finish last.

That marked the team's worst-ever performance under coach Wambua.

They began their campaign on a rough note with a 28-0 loss to Argentina, followed by a 33-7 defeat to France and a 26-10 loss to Great Britain, leaving them at the bottom of their group.

The poor run of results relegated them to the 11th-place playoff, where they fell to Uruguay, before their final loss against Ireland.

Pool A features Vancouver Sevens champions Argentina, who will face opposition from; Fiji, the USA, and Ireland.

The final pool (Pool B) includes powerhouse teams South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, with Uruguay also looking to make an impact.

The World Rugby Sevens Series standings have seen significant shifts, with Argentina continuing their impressive form.

Their 19-12 victory over South Africa in Vancouver secured another 20 points, bringing their total to 68 points, edging them ahead of Spain, who sit in second place with 64 points.

Fiji, in third place with 62 points, is tied with South Africa.

France occupies fifth place with 46 points, while Australia and New Zealand are tied on 38 points each.

Great Britain sits in the top eight with 32 points, widening the gap to the relegation playoff zone, where Kenya remains in ninth with 15 points, tied with Uruguay.

Despite a disappointing run in Vancouver, Kenya 7s still maintain their position ahead of the relegation zone.

The USA slightly improved their standing after picking up nine points in Vancouver, while Ireland remains at the bottom of the standings with seven points.
