Shujaa finished in third place as Lionesses struggled to get going in the firstweekend of action
Having just concluded the first tournament of the doubleheader Emirates Invitational Sevens that is currently being staged in Dubai, men’s and women’s rugby sides, Shujaa and Lionesses respectively, have already noted areas that need improvement ahead of the second tournament.
Shujaa were unable to repeat their Madrid heroics of getting to the finals but the Innocent Simiyu-led side finished third in the first weekend after beating Japan 31-14. The head coach is confident that if Shujaa can eliminate a few costly mistakes from their play, the team can achieve desired results.

“Overall performance by the boys was good. We had a few lapses in two games that ended up costing us but the boys played well. For now, we try to go higher, if we can execute better at those critical moments of the game, I believe we have what it takes to win the cup,” said coach Simiyu.
Lionesses on the other hand had a weekend to forget after losing all of their games. That notwithstanding, head coach Felix Oloo has already identified areas that need drastic improvement in the second edition.

“Our performance in this second week will depend on our recovery protocols and getting our basic rugby skills right. We will ensure the players continue recovering well. We are also working on our breakdown-realignment and quick reaction to every situation, which is an area that needs to be improved on,” said coach Felix Oloo
