Kabras Sugar RFC winger Derrick Ashihundu is set to make his return to the playing field for the first time after overcoming a nasty leg injury that sidelined him for over one year since July 2022.
This is after the Kenyan international, who has represented both the 7s and 15s national teams in his career, was included in the squad that will be travelling to Nakuru this weekend 5/6 August to take part in the Prinsloo 7s which marks the third outing of the 2023 National Sevens Circuit.

In the thirteen-man squad named by head coach Felix Ayange, Ashihundu will be joined by Kenya 7s forward Kevin Wekesa, Brian Tanga, Jone Kubu, Bryceson Adaka, Barry Robinson, Lameck Ambetsa, Alfred Orege, William Muhanji, Paul Abuto, Dan Angwech, Griffin Chao and Eric Cantona.
Cantona will be making his debut for the sugarmen after completing his switch from varsity side Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in the transfer window.
Heading into Nakuru, the sugarmen top the current standings on 41 points, two clear of second placed KCB (39 points) with Strathmore Leos (32 points), Menengai Oilers (31 points) and Kenya Harlequin (27 points) closing out the top five.
The Western based side are the only team to make it to back to back cup finals in the two openings legs of the 2023 campaign that have been played in Kisumu and Mombasa.
In Nakuru, they have been placed in Pool A that sees them face Kisumu RFC, Homeboyz RFC and neighbors Western Bulls who are the only new faces in the pool.
The other sides faced off during Driftwood 7s with Kabras RFC recording 3/3 wins to top the pool. Kabras saw off Kisumu RFC 36-5 during their last meeting before edging Homeboyz RFC 35-12.
