The team decided to forego the knockout cup competition
Mwamba RFC head coach Kevin Wambua has elucidated on some of the reasons that led to the decision of withdrawing the team from the 2022 Enterprise Cup competition that is currently ongoing after the completion of the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup season.
Just before the quarterfinal round, the country’s rugby governing body Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced that Kulabu had withdrawn from the competition consequently giving their last 8 opponents Homeboyz RFC an easy passage to the semifinals.

However, according to their head coach, the decision to withdraw from the knockout competition came as a result of a number issues the club was facing leaving them with no option but to forego their participation from the entire competition.
“We had a lot of issues behind us withdrawing from the competition but basically the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup season was a long and tough one for us. We had a lot of injuries as well and many of our players were not available. That is why we decided to drop out of the competition,” Wambua told Mozzart Sport.

In the just concluded league campaign, Kulabu showed incredible turnaround in form spearheaded by Kenya 7s veteran Collins Injera as they went from losing their first three games to finishing in fifth position, putting to bed some of the early relegation scares that blinked their way in the difficult start to the season.
However, with the Enterprise Cup signaling the end of the 15s season and the ushering of the 7s campaign, Wamua revealed that they would put their house in order to partake in the 7s circuit making its return in the country after a two year hiatus.
“After the withdrawal, we anticipate to get back in action for the 7s season that gets underway in May,” the coach stated.
The circuit will kick off on Saturday 21 May 2022 with the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial 7s getting things underway. It will still maintain the traditional six rounds starting with the opening two legs of the Kabeberi and Christie Sevens before heading to Kakamega, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru for the subsequent legs.
