Mwamba pull out of season ending Kakamega 7s

Kulabu withdrew from the tournament following the demise of their team manager Stephanie Rose Otieno.

Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC have revealed that they will not be playing any part in the 2022 National Sevens Circuit season ending Kakamega 7s set to be played at the Bull Ring Arena in Kakamega this weekend 16-17 July 2022.

In a statement put out on their official social media platforms, the 2022 Driftwood 7s champions explained that they were withdrawing from the tournament following the tragic demise of their team manager Stephanie Rose Otieno.

“UPDATE: Due to the tragic death of our TM Stephanie Rose Otieno, we have withdrawn from this weekend's #Kakamega7s. We thank teams, individuals and the wider rugby fraternity for their comforting words and encouragement. We wish Western Bulls and Keya Rugby Union a successful tournament,” the notice read.

Mwamba, who are currently in fifth place on the log having accumulated 73 points from the opening five rounds ( Kabeberi, Christie, Driftwood, Dala and Prinsloo) had been grouped in Pool B but have now been replaced by Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad who have been promoted from the Division 2.

“There are changes to the Division 1 draw at the final leg of the 2022 National Sevens Circuit, the Kakamega 7s set for 16/17 July at The Bull Ring in Kakamega.
