MMUST picked up their first Kenya Cup win after earning promotion this season.
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) suffered a rude awakening in the Kenya Cup but recovered well to muster a 6-12 win against Mwamba RFC with head coach John Ahaya asking his charges to level up before the clash.
MMUST picked up their first win in the Kenya Cup after suffering heavy defeats against Kabras and Nakuru RFC that left them rooted to the bottom of the standings with the win now thrusting them to seventh on the 11 team log.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Ahaya revealed how he inspired his boys to stun 1983 Kenya Cup champions in a match that only two tries.
"My message to the boys was not very different to the other matches, I just wanted them to know they are on this high stage which requires very strong mental strength which I think they had in this game because you could see they did not concede when they were under pressure and I think that is a big ingredient to add on this stage."
"We have been preparing since we qualified for the Kenya Cup, this was our third match, the first game things did not go very well but there was a lesson, the second game also did not go our way but it was another big lesson, finally we have a win against a very senior side," said Ahaya.

The win marked MMUST first ever win in the Kenya Cup after qualifying for their maiden season this campaign after beating Mean Machine in the Championship Play-Offs.
Ahaya was however little impressed with the win noting that there is still a lot to work on and opened up on his side's secret to fitness.
"I'm happy but this is just one match, I cannot lie that I am very pleased because there is still a lot that is unfolding but for I start I can say that this is a good reward."
"These are young people who are still students and they are at that stage where they are agile and full of energy so I think fitness comes naturally but then in MMUST we have a very modern gym which I think is baring some fruits," added Ahaya.
MMUST next face Nondescripts on Saturday 27 March at the Kakamega Showground.
