Monks and Machine achieved Kenya Cup status this weekend
Mean Machine upset the score card after edging South Coast Pirates to end their two-year Kenya Cup hiatus with Catholic Monks also joining them to the country's premier rugby competition.
Monks sealed a place back in the Kenya after a low scoring 5-9 win over Shamas Foundation to return to top flight rugby after suffering relegation back in the 2014-2015 season.
Diani-based South Coast Pirates were favourites heading into the Championship semi final after beating Machine 28-10 in the regular season.
Machine and Monks will now contest the Championship final next Saturday to determine the winner of the second tier with both teams having already sealed a place in the Kenya Cup.
Monks and Machine will replace record Kenya Cup champions Nondescripts and 10-time Kenya Cup champions Impala Saracens.
With Machine and Monks making a return to Kenya Cup, the league will have five Varsity sides alongside Kenyatta University's Black Blad, Strathmore Leo's and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
