Impala had beat Mwamba in the regular season but the latter claimed a win in the final.
When it mattered most Yamanishi Impala Saracens could not get going, suffering their first Kenya Cup defeat and losing the trophy following a thrilling 11-15 loss at the hands of Mwamba RFC in a final staged at the Impala Club on Saturday 19 March.
After a opening 10 minutes that was littered with poor ball handling skills, Mwamba finally arrived to the party in the 11th minute when Samiya Ayikuru weaved through the Impala defense to touch down but the conversion was missed from a tight angle.
Impala missed three penalties before they finally got their angles right through Anne Koki in the 32nd minute from just outside the five yard line and right at the center of the post.
Four minutes before the half time whistle, Mwamba extended their lead when Winnie Owino found some space after camping into the Impala territory with some sustained bit of pressure that resulted in Owino breaching the Impala defense and running to slot the ball behind the sticks but still missed the conversion to go into the break with a 10-3 lead.
Impala clawed back into the four minutes after the restart when Anne Koki kicked the ball home after an offside call from the referee.
Mwamba however pulled away with another try in the 51st minute after a well worked scrum from the five meter line that ended with Esther Juma touching down as the Mwamba scrum were dominant.
After some a line break from an offside call with Pauline Misango showing a clean pair if heels to finish off the move and land her team's first try of the game but the conversion was short to set up a tense 10-minute final with the scores delicately poised at 11-15.
Mwamba however held in for the win to go down in history as the first winners of the trophy.
