The caretaker committee has been tasked with steering the historic rugby club through a critical transitional period.

The announcement, made on Friday, 30 May, follows resolutions passed during the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, 20 May.

The AGM, convened amid growing concerns over the club’s recent performance and structural challenges, resolved to install an interim committee to guide Mwamba RFC forward.

The caretaker team will be led by Edwin Waita as interim chairman, Eugene Sudi as interim secretary, and Francis Wanyonyi as interim treasurer.

Joining them are Peter Kepher and former players Larry Asego, Edwin Machanje, and Phelix Ohato, bringing both administrative and rugby-playing experience to the table.

The committee has been tasked with ensuring continuity, strengthening governance structures, and laying the foundation for stability as the club prepares for fresh elections.

This leadership shift comes in the wake of the club’s relegation from the Kenya Cup at the close of the 2024/25 season, a blow to a side that has long been regarded as one of Kenya’s most iconic rugby outfits.

The club is also preparing to host the prestigious Christie 7s tournament, scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, 16 to Sunday, 17 August.

The event will be held at Mwamba’s new home ground, the Goan Institute in Pangani, Nairobi, marking a new chapter for the team both on and off the pitch.

Mwamba’s women’s team remains a bright spot for the club, with several players, including Naomi Amuguni, Sinaida Mokaya, and Faith Livoi, set to feature for the Kenya Lionesses at the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Madagascar from Sunday, 1 to Sunday, 16 June.

The caretaker committee follows the leadership of Jason Rosario Braganza, who was elected chairperson in November 2023, succeeding George Mbaye.

Braganza’s administration included Honorary Secretary Gilbert Nyangor and Treasurer Meshack Miyogo, both elected with high hopes for rejuvenating the club.
