KSSSA Games: Ofafa Jericho out to dethrone Upperhill as Nairobi rugby 7s kings

If the rugby sevens Day 1 results of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) are anything to go by, Ofafa Jericho High School look set to hand Upperhill School a run for their money should both sides advance to the latter stages of the tournament.
The school games which are at the regional stage will see two learning institutions book a place in the Nationals that are set for Nakuru on Thursday 8 to Sunday 13 September.
Ofafa Jericho looked menacing as they brushed aside their opponents on Day 1 kicking off things with a 24-0 thumping of Kibra High School and annihilating Eastleigh High School 41-0.
The reigning Prescott Cup champions saved the best for last as they wrapped up their day with a 28-14 win over Dagoretti High School in what was a standout match in the Pool games.
Reining national rugby 7s champions, Upperhill School also got their title defense off to a perfect start as they finished their Pool matches with three victories against Kangemi High School, Aquinas High School, and St Mary’s School.
Upperhill School coach James Mwangi revealed that he was impressed with his team’s performance in Day 1 and was confident of getting to the Nationals.
“Day 1 was good, the boys worked hard yesterday and we got the wins. The most important thing is that we did not get injuries as that will boost our chances of winning.
We are not under any pressure, we have trained well and I’m sure we will perform well and we have set a target of winning every game,” said Mwangi.
Hosts Lenana School will have a mountain to climb in the quarter-finals as they face Dagoretti High School who are reeling after their loss to Ofafa Jericho on Satuday.
