The premier capacity-building initiative is aimed at strengthening the technical and professional standards of rugby in Kenya and the broader region.

This year’s edition features a packed lineup of elite-level training courses, marking a critical step in the ongoing efforts to professionalise rugby across Africa.

The event will bring together coaches, trainers, medics, and development officers from Kenya’s top rugby tiers.

The four key development courses are:

1. Strength and Conditioning (SNC) – Level 2

Taking place over the three-day event, the SNC course marks only the third time it has been held in Kenya, the last session occurring four years ago.

It will be facilitated by Richard Ochieng and Geoffrey Kimani, under the supervision of Denver Wannies, a Master Trainer from Rugby Afrique.

The course will host 12 participants drawn from the Kenya Cup, Championship, and Nationwide 15s leagues.

2. Immediate Care in Rugby (ICIR) – Level 2

This is scheduled for Friday, 9 to Saturday, 10 May. The crucial medical support training will be led by James Ondiege and Gerald Omondi, with oversight by Dr. Joseph Kalanzi, a certified World Rugby medical trainer.

The course aims to deepen the emergency response capabilities of medical personnel working in Kenya’s rugby ecosystem.

3. First Aid in Rugby (FAIR) – Level 1

On Sunday, 11 May, FAIR will offer foundational first aid training tailored to rugby environments. The facilitators include Christopher Makachia, Lamech Bogonko, Levyce Kityui, Phillemon Odidi, and Joseph Kolli, under the watch of Dr. James Ondiege.

The course is open to individuals entering the medical support side of the sport.

4. Activate/Injury Prevention Programme

Also on Sunday, 11 May, the injury prevention course, critical for sustainable athlete performance, will be delivered by Alex Agallo and Michael Shamiah, engaging 25 participants, including several KRU Regional Development Officers.

A practical component will be conducted in collaboration with Kings Rugby Development Academy, emphasising real-world application of injury prevention techniques across Kenyan rugby regions.

The Super Week 2025 will also serve as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunity for both James Ondiege and Richard Ochieng, ensuring the trainers themselves stay at the forefront of global standards.

Robert Bwali, Rugby Afrique’s Game Growth Manager for Anglophone countries, will provide strategic oversight for the entire week. Alongside Denver Wannies, Bwali will also assess Kenya U20 Head Coach Simon Jawichre on his Level 3 (15s) Coaching – Part 1 certification.

Bwali is also expected to conduct a Union Development Review, engaging KRU’s senior leadership, including the CEO, Director of Rugby, and Development Staff, with an eye on aligning local initiatives with continental and global rugby growth strategies.
