Coach Wambua and his bench will trim the squad in the coming weeks
Kenya Rugby Union has named a 35-man provisional Kenya men’s sevens squad ahead of the Rugby Africa 7s taking place in Harare, Zimbabwe, on September 16–17, 2023.
This year’s tournament doubles up as the African Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Shujaa have been grouped in Pool B alongside Zambia, Namibia, and Nigeria.
Pool A features South Africa, Madagascar, Tunisia, and Ivory Coast, with Pool C comprising Uganda, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, and Algeria.
The tournament will be coach Kelvin Wambua’s first major assignment as a sevens coach. The youthful tactician replaced Damian McGrath, who was shown the door last month.
While handing him the mantle, KRU boss Sasha Mutai expressed confidence in Wambua.
"We have full confidence in coach Kevin Wambua and his team, who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in their respective fields. With their expertise and the unwavering support of our fans, we are confident that our team will make our nation proud as they strive for success on the international stage," Mutai said.
