The player impressed the club during Simbas' appearance at the African Rugby World Cup qualifiers staged in France.

Kenya Simbas foward Bethuel Anami has completed his international move from Kenya Cup side Strathmore Leos to French Division 3 outfit Stade Caennais Rugby Club, Mozzart Sport can confirm.

Baku, as the player is commonly referred to in the rugby circles, is said to have caught the eye of the club’s scouting department when the Simbas took part in the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup staged in France back in July which were serving as the African qualifiers for the prestigious 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Having formed an integral part of the team that went all the way to the finals before disappointingly going down against Namibia, Baku, who plays the Number 8 role and who shone during the tournament, had already done enough to land the move.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Leos head coach Louis Kisia confirmed the news and revealed how various factors aided in sealing the transfer.

“Baku’s move came when the Kenya Simbas were in France for the World Cup qualifiers. We had a French student who was in Strathmore for an exchange programme and that student is attached to Stade Caennais Rugby Club.

So, when the Simbas were there, the arrangements to have scouts at the games were made and that is how Baku got the nod after his impressive performances,” the coach disclosed.

Additionally, Kisia revealed that the opportunity will also see Baku given an employment opportunity in marketing by the same club where he has signed a one year deal.

“The team will also be offering him an employment opportunity in marketing since he has a degree in that area,” he said.

The former player turned coach noted that Baku would still be eligible to play for Leos whenever he is available according to the agreement struck by the club. Leos will also get to benefit financially should Baku make future moves in future.
