The Kenya men's rugby sevens national team; Shujaa have announced their provisional squad for the upcoming Safari 7s.

As expected, several faces that lit up the recently concluded National Sevens Circuit have been included.

Leading the charge is Kabras RFC playmaker Kevin Wekesa who is not new to this task, having turned out for Shujaa several times, including the 2024 Olympics.

He is joined by fellow teammates Brian Mutua, Patrick Lumumba, youngster Jackson Siketa, Brian Tanga, and Lamech Ambetsa.

2024 Prinsloo 7s champions Strathmore Leos have also contributed several players. Hard-hitting forward George Ooro, Gabriel Ayimba; son of the late Kenya 7s coach Benjamin Ayimba, Collins Maina, Elton Amalemba, and halfback Nygel Amaitsa are in the squad.

David Williams and Leonard Fogang from National Sevens Circuit champions Kenya Harlequin are also in the squad. They are joined by teammates Herman Humwa, and Amon Wamalwa.

Kenya Sevens co-captain Vincent Onyala of KCB Rugby, former Kabras RFC lock Elvis Olukusi, Michael Wamalwa, and scrum-half Samuel Asati are also in the squad.

Dennis Abukuse, John Okoth, Floyd Wabwire, Felix Okoth, and Philip Okeyo too are in the squad.

The team’s assistant coach Louis Kisia said the 36-man squad, who reported to training on Monday 23 September will be whittled down to 26 for both Shujaa and Morans.

From the final 26, according to Kisia, they will pick the team for the HSBC SVNS season, which starts in Dubai in December.

“These players were outstanding during the circuit and will have to replicate that form in training. By Shujaa being the defending champions, we must have a strong team.

It will be a blend of youth and experience which can go all the way and retain the title," he offered.
